Sewer Odor Detection

When the foul odor of rotten eggs infiltrates a home or business, this suggests a problem with the sewer pipe or venting system.

OUR SEWER ODOR DETECTION SERVICES

Pipe Surgeons offers 19 services performed by our certified and fully licensed plumbing and pipe specialists. Sewer odor is not something any of us want to live with. Not only is it a foul smell, but it is a strong symptom that something in your drains simply is not right. With how drains are used, it’s not surprising to most that drains are not a great smelling environment.  Drains are designed, however,  to block smells from backing up into your home.

If you are beginning to experience the smell of rotten eggs (sulfur) or excrement, it may be a sign that there is an issue with the pipes leading to or from the main sewer line. Such damage can be caused naturally by tree roots or land shifts or can be caused by local digging and building. Regardless of the reason for the smell, it needs professional evaluation immediately. If the problem is a sewer main issue, waste can back up into your drains and into your home.

If you are experiencing odor from your pipes, call one of our professionals for an evaluation. Our company has been serving Florida for over 40 years and can evaluate and remedy the problem professionally.

Understanding Sewer Odor Detection

We use a handheld electronic device to detect sewer gases. These devices have a bulb at the end. The bulb senses different types of gases in the air. Located at the end of a flexible neck, the bulb picks up sewer gas from the shower, bathtub, kitchen, laundry, and main sewer drains in homes and businesses.

Benefits

Sewer gas odors cause discomfort. They’re also a symptom of a problem with the plumbing system. Our no-dig, minimally invasive sewer odor detection determines which gases are present and where the concentration is highest. This helps us identify the problem and plan the most effective solution.

A Breakdown of the Process

When our technicians arrive at your home or business, we set up the detector to check for hydrogen sulfide, carbon monoxide, and methane. We also blow air and a special “smoke” into drains and track the movement of the gases. If the levels of hydrogen sulfide, methane, or carbon monoxide exceed the recommended safe levels, this indicates a leak, pipe deterioration, or obstruction in the sewer pipe or ventilation system. We also check the oxygen level – low oxygen levels also suggest a sewer gas issue.
